Highland Literacy Project

The Highland Literacy Project focuses on the methodologies employed in the teaching and learning of reading. It makes the connection between reading and writing and there is a strong emphasis on talking and listening.

As pupils progress through the primary school, they are taught to become increasingly independent readers through the use of collaborative learning.  The Highland Literacy Project is based on extensive research and guidance from a wide variety of sources. This includes advice from practitioners in Highland and across Scotland.
